FS SAFETY installs, operates and manages the temporary speed restriction (TSR) signals on the approaches to railroad worksites. Installing a TSR involves positioning worksite signals to slow trains drown and to restrict their speed when passing next to a worksite.
The installation and management of TSRs, KVB speed-check balises, fixed track contacts and electromechanical pedals requires specific technical competencies, such as drafting and reading plans. The work involves the precise positioning of signals and related KVB balises to ensure track safety. The KVB balises communicate with the on-board equipment in the train to check compliance with the speed restrictions. If train speed is too high, the on-board speed-control system brings the train to a halt by applying the emergency brakes.
